Leading for the Future - Pupil Voice in the Classroom

An introduction to developing an inclusive approach to pupil voice across your school based upon their right to thrive and an appreciation of social justice. Explore techniques for developing engagement and agency in creating active global citizens.


Outcomes

  • To explore the reasons for incorporating pupil voice in your teaching and school decision making
  • Enabling children to fulfil Article 12 of the UN Charter of Children’s Rights and explore the notion of courageous advocacy
  • To address the barriers that might reduce the impact of pupil voice
  • To ensure that all pupils have a voice and can work in a collaborative way to identify an area they want to explore and carry out actions to make a difference that is sustainable
  • This approach supports pupils’ wellbeing to empower them and to know that their actions can make a difference now and in the future
  • To make good use of time and complement and strengthen the curriculum, school ethos, the personal development of all pupils and staff
  • To develop a case for pupil voice in developing leadership and communication skills to present across the school and be engaged with their wider community and globally
  • To provide teachers with a set of tools and approaches to develop pupils’ leadership skills
