Cumbria Youth Voice Forum

Jan 28, 2025

For the past 4 years, over 80 organisations have been collaborating on the Zero Carbon Cumbria Programme (ZCC) with the aim of making Cumbria a carbon-net-zero county by 2037. One of the elements of this final year of ZCC Programme is the Cumbria Citizens' Assembly which will meet in March and April 2025 and will be run by community engagement experts Shared Future (NW based), with its recommendations being presented late April.

The voices and perspectives of young people must be heard on these issues which are critical to their future, so we would like to run a parallel Youth Voice Forum to capture these essential voices and perspectives and feed them into the formal assembly process.

To effectively do this, we would really appreciate working with a range of youth settings across Cumbria to ensure young people are contributing to the wider process and informing the recommendations. The young people you work with do not need to know a lot about the climate crisis: we are interested in how their voices can shape, inform and add power to a wider process.

The Youth Voice Forum would operate within the same timeframe (March and April), with the young people supporting the Citizens' Assembly at the start of their process, at a mid-point and towards the end.

If you think your setting and young people would be interested in contributing to the work of the Youth Voice Forum, then please complete this doodle poll for an initial information and planning meeting (this is for youth workers/ practitioners) https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/eZvDvWve

There is a small amount of funding that can pay for people’s time on this project.

The question the Assembly will consider is ‘Many people in Cumbria feel unheard and unable to influence those who make decisions on climate change action. What can be done about this?’
