Throughout autumn and winter 2020 we ran a series of creative workshops for young people to give them the opportunity to talk and explore what the past six or seven months of upheaval due to coronavirus have been like for them, with the aim of using these experiences to create news report ready podcasts, audios and videos.
Along the way, the teenagers developed their own communication, teamwork, storytelling, editing and planning skills. They had the chance to create storyboards, learn about organising content, as well as unpack and process thoughts and feelings to build their resilience and personal management skills. We were learning to listen, hear the unspoken, tuning into each other's feelings and sharing stories of what it is like to live far away from your family in the middle of pandemic.
